There's no question that tourism creates jobs in South Africa. But communities, particularly in isolated rural areas, are often excluded from the tourism value and supply chain. Developing and supporting small businesses that can supply goods and services to the industry will bring new jobs and opportunities to rural communities.

Open Africa creates and promotes travel routes that take tourists off the beaten track, allowing them to connect with the ‘real’ Africa. The 60 routes connect tourists to over 2,600 small enterprises offering a range of goods and services - from guest house accommodation to crafts. This project will provide training, mentoring and marketing support to rural small businesses along a route in the Western Cape.
