Frequently asked questions
What happens if the recipient of my gift does not have an email address? How can my company make use of Gifts4Good for corporate gifting to staff, clients or suppliers? I don’t have a credit card, how can I support the campaign? What portion of the gift money goes to the project? How do you choose which organisations receive these gifts? Do you send the project the actual gift? Are my card and personal details secure? Why do I have to register to buy a gift I have other questions, who do I contact? Gifts4Good is an online shop that offers a range of alternative gifts to help people make a difference throughout the year. You can choose gifts that change lives for any special occasion, such as birthdays, anniversaries, religious celebrations, or Mother's and Father's day. Gifts are linked to five priority social development sectors: Education, Community, Health, Environment and People. Within these sectors, there are many screened and evaluated social development projects that have applied to the South African Social Investment Exchange (SASIX) for funding. Our South African Social Investment Exchange (SASIX) is a first for South Africa. It’s a social ‘stock exchange’ where carefully selected development projects are listed for people to invest in for as little as R50 per share. The return on the investment is primarily social, rather than financial, but is nonetheless vital for South Africa’s future. SASIX applies the same sort of due diligence consideration to projects as would be applied to purely financial investments, including assessing need and evaluating depth, breadth, permanence, strengths and risks. The selection and evaluation process gives our investors the peace of mind that their contribution is invested in a highly evaluated and accountable project. The Gifts4Good online store has a range of gifts to help you change lives:
What happens if the recipient of my gift does not have an email address? A printable version of the gift e-card is available as an option in Step 2 of the gifting process. You can then present your gift recipient with the printed card on their special day. How can my company make use of Gifts4Good for corporate gifting to staff, clients or suppliers? Companies can make use of Gifts4Good in a number of ways:
All this will cost is the value of the gift and if you wish to personalise the e-card or vouchers - a nominal fee to cover our design and development costs. I don’t have a credit card, how can I support the campaign? You can make a donation to Gifts4Good by direct deposit or electronic transfer in two ways:
Account name: GreaterGood SA Trust Bank: Nedbank Branch: Cape Town Branch code: 12-32-09 Account number: 1232125482 Please use the reference: G4G and the gift group you want to support (this is so that we can make sure your donation goes to where it is intended) and send us confirmation of your donation. Gifts4Good is an online campaign so we do not have the facility to send gifts in this way. Your transfer will be a donation to the gift group of your choice. All the gifts support carefully selected projects working towards the eradication of poverty in South Africa. The gifts are chosen from approved project budgets in priority development sectors including Health, People, Education, Environment and Community. What portion of the gift money goes to the project? We are charged a transaction fee of R4.56 for each transaction by our service provider for online donations as well as a credit card fee of 3.42%. Because transaction costs work on economies of scale this percentage will be smaller, the larger your donation. These are charges we unfortunately have no control over but they can be minimized by making your donation by electronic transfer instead. The remaining amount of your gift is then credited to the project. A 12.5% evaluation, monitoring and reporting fee is added to every project budget before it is listed for funding - so that the project budget itself is not affected. Therefore, if you purchase a gift for R100 around R84 will be allocated directly to the project budget. How do you choose which organisations receive these gifts? Gifts4Good uses GreaterGood SA's SASIX assessment and evaluation process to select the projects that will benefit. This includes peer review panels, site visits, a comprehensive organisation and risk assessment, research, evaluation and detailed reporting. So when you buy a Gifts4Good gift, you can be sure that your contribution will make a real difference, to real people and communities, facing very real problems in South Africa. Do you send the project the actual gift? Our gift ideas are taken from the actual budgets of projects assessed and listed through our SA Social Investment Exchange (SASIX). However, it would not be sensible or sustainable to send individual items to projects as the money was donated. Instead, we wait for the entire project to be funded and then pay the money over to the organisation in managed tranche payments. The organisation must submit a detailed report on their expenditure in order to receive their next tranche payment. They are also required to submit a report when the project is complete. This way, we can fulfil our promise to you, the donor, that the money is properly spent and accounted for and that the project beneficiaries really benefit from the items you have paid for with your gift. The Make Christmas Matter campaign offers a range of alternative Christmas gifts through the Gifts4Good portal to help people make a difference at this special time of year. Gifts are linked to specific and carefully selected and evaluated social development projects that require funding. Are my card and personal details secure? We use the Mweb SafeShop e-commerce interface, for conducting secure transactions. SafeShop is a comprehensive, secure solution that includes a triple firewall security system. Gifts4Good has a Thawte SSL certificate for secure e-commerce transactions. We do not store your credit card details - you need to enter these each time you buy gifts - and will never pass your registration details on to a third party. We take our customers' privacy very seriously - read our privacy policy for details. Why do I have to register to buy a gift Like any online shop, we need your email address to process your transaction and to send you notification that your gift has been purchased. Your gift will contribute to the funding of projects within a priority social development sector and we keep you updated on the progress of these projects. I have other questions, who do I contact? Please email info@ggsa.co.za or call us on (021) 762 7944. |
